Shingo Natsume, the acclaimed director of Sonny Boy and One-Punch Man Season 1, has announced a new original anime film titled ghost (working title), scheduled for release in 2027.
The announcement comes just ahead of the Annecy International Animation Film Market, where the film is being presented to international distributors. A teaser poster and two preview images have been released, offering a first look at the project.
ghost tells the story of a young girl named Nike, who stands up against injustice to protect the starry night sky. The film aims to capture the emotional complexity of her journey, highlighting both her loneliness and her courage through her encounters with others. Natsume said he hopes to “blend animation with reality that reflects the current era.”
The film is being produced by MADHOUSE and is based on an original story developed by Natsume, Tomohiro Suzuki (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.), Bandai Namco Filmworks, and MADHOUSE. Natsume is both the writer and director of the film.
Natsume Ono, known for creating the ACCA 13 manga, has designed the original characters. Norifumi Kugai, who previously worked on Sonny Boy and ACCA 13, is responsible for adapting the designs for animation.
Further details, including a full trailer and casting information, are expected as the 2027 release date approaches.
