The popular light novel and manga series The Ogre’s Bride is getting a TV anime adaptation, it was announced today. While the news has excited fans, no further information—such as the anime’s release date, staff, or cast—has been revealed at this time.
The announcement coincides with the upcoming release of Volume 7 of the manga, which will go on sale in Japan on June 13. To celebrate the anime adaptation, special illustrations were released by the novel’s illustrator Yu Shiratani and manga artist Jun Togashi.
Written by Kureha and illustrated by Yu Shiratani, The Ogre’s Bride light novel series began publication in 2020 under the Starts Publishing Bunko imprint. As of now, nine volumes have been published in Japan.
A manga adaptation by Jun Togashi has been serialized since 2022 in Starts Publishing’s noicomi magazine. An English version is available through MangaPlaza.
MangaPlaza describes the story as a Japanese-style Cinderella tale set in a world where humans and ayakashi—supernatural beings—coexist. These powerful and beautiful ayakashi sometimes choose human women to become their brides, promising them love in exchange for prosperity.
The story follows Yuzu, a young woman overshadowed by her sister, who is the bride of a demon fox. Neglected and mistreated by her family, Yuzu’s life changes when she meets a mysterious, handsome man on a bridge. To her shock, he calls her his wife. What follows is an emotional journey as the cold-hearted yet powerful ayakashi begins to show his true feelings for Yuzu.
