Kadokawa announced on Monday that Pan Dorobō (Bread Thief), the popular picture book series by Keiko Shibata, will be adapted into an anime. Details about the format or release date have not yet been revealed. To celebrate the announcement, Shibata shared a special illustration.
The story follows a piece of bread that mischievously steals bread from bakeries across the city.
The first book in the series was published in April 2020. The seventh volume, Pan Dorobō to Sweets Ōji (Bread Thief and the Old Sweets Man), is scheduled for release on September 10.
The series has sold 4.5 million copies and has earned several accolades, including the 11th LIBRO Picture Book Prize.
