The theatrical premiere of the second season of the Dan Da Dan anime ranked #8 at the U.S. box office, earning an estimated US$3,096,000 during its opening weekend. The film, which screened in 1,085 theaters, grossed approximately US$1,508,000 on Friday (including US$532,000 from Thursday previews), US$938,000 on Saturday, and US$650,000 on Sunday.
GKIDS began screening Dan Da Dan: EVIL EYE in North America on Friday. The anime’s second season premiered in Asia (outside Japan) on May 30, and in Europe on Saturday.
The second season of Dan Da Dan, based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s “paranormal mystery battle & romantic comedy” manga, will debut on TV in Japan on July 3, airing on MBS and TBS in the “Super Animeism Turbo” programming block. Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs.
Fūga Yamashiro and Abel Góngora, who worked on the first season, are credited as directors for the new season at Science SARU. The returning cast includes Mutsumi Tamura as Evil Eye (Jashi). The opening theme song, “Kakumei Dōchū” (On the Way), is performed by Aina The End.
The first season premiered in Japan on October 3, 2022, and was streamed worldwide on Netflix and Crunchyroll. The series had a total of 12 episodes.
Crunchyroll provides the following synopsis for the series:
Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and Okarun, a classmate who is obsessed with the occult, are forced to confront their conflicting beliefs in ghosts and aliens. After a series of supernatural events, Momo awakens her hidden powers, while Okarun gains a curse, setting the stage for an unexpected and fateful romance.
The theatrical screening of the first three episodes, Dan Da Dan: First Encounter, grossed an estimated US$1,005,531 in the U.S. during its limited release in September.
Tatsu’s manga is serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service, and Viz Media publishes the English version digitally through their MANGA Plus service.
