A second live-action movie based on the Mr. Osomatsu anime series is planned for release in Japan in early 2026. The official website for the project announced today that the five members of Ae! Group and Takuya Nishimura from Kansai Junior will play the six Matsuno brothers. Both groups are part of STARTO ENTERTAINMENT, the successor company to Johnny & Associates.
The cast members for the sextuplets are:
- Osomatsu: Seiya Suezawa (Ae! Group)
- Karamatsu: Yoshinori Masakado (Ae! Group)
- Choromatsu: Masaya Sano (Ae! Group)
- Ichimatsu: Ken Kojima (Ae! Group)
- Jushimatsu: Keita Richard Kusama (Ae! Group)
- Todomatsu: Takuya Nishimura (Kansai Junior)
The first live-action Mr. Osomatsu film featured nine members of Johnny & Associates’ male idol group Snow Man. It was released in March 2022 and earned 1.67 billion yen (about 11.53 million USD) domestically.
For the new film, Taisuke Kawamura, known for directing the Princess Jellyfish live-action movie, will serve as director. The screenplay is written by Takayuki Takuma. This replaces Tsutomu Hanabusa, who directed the first film.
The Mr. Osomatsu TV anime aired three seasons from 2017 to 2021. The fourth season is scheduled to premiere on July 8, 2025.
Crunchyroll, which streams the previous three seasons, describes Mr. Osomatsu as follows:
Based on Fujio Akatsuka’s gag manga Osomatsu-kun (1962–1969), the series centers on the Matsuno brothers, a set of sextuplets. Osomatsu is the oldest brother and the leader of the group.
