Sunrise has released an exciting new teaser visual and a second promotional video for its upcoming original anime series Maebashi Witches, which is set to premiere in April 2025. The announcement, made on Thursday, reveals additional details about the anime, including the theme song artists and new character designs.
The anime, which is set in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, follows the coming-of-age story of five high school girls who are chosen to become witches. The newly released visuals feature the main characters dressed in both their everyday spring outfits and their distinctive “flower shop uniforms.”
Character Details and Theme Song
The five central characters of the series, collectively known as the Maebashi Witches, will perform the ending theme song titled “Sorezore no Door” (Each Door). The song’s lyrics were written by Haruka Kumoi, with Yūki Kishida handling the arrangement. The characters’ daily lives will be depicted in the top row of visuals, while the bottom row showcases them in their magical flower shop uniforms.
The main characters, voiced by a talented cast, include:
- Yuina Akagi (voiced by Sakura Kasuga), a cheerful high school freshman with a passion for photography.
- Azu Niisato (voiced by Hinano Sakikawa), a fashion and cosmetics enthusiast.
- Kyoka Kitahara (voiced by Rena Motomura), a girl from a wealthy family attending the top high school in the region.
- Choco Mitsumata (voiced by Haruka Minami), a lively and optimistic girl who lifts the mood of those around her.
- Mai Kamiizumi (voiced by Honami Momose), a realist who is highly conscious of how others perceive her.
Additionally, Tomokazu Sugita will voice Keroppe, a mysterious frog who scouts the five girls to become apprentice witches.
Plot Overview and Production Team
The story revolves around Yuina Akagi, an ordinary first-year high school student living a somewhat unsatisfying life. Her world changes when she is approached by Keroppe and invited, along with four other girls, to become witches. A hidden room closet in their school opens up into a magical flower shop, where the girls embark on a journey of singing, dancing, and fulfilling the wishes of others.
The anime is produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks and PROJECT MBW. Junichi Yamamoto, known for his work on Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion and Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You, is directing the series. Erika Yoshida, famed for Bocchi the Rock! and Tower of God, is handling the series composition. Nozomi Tachibana (Kemono Jihen) is designing the characters based on Yū Inami’s original designs, while Yoshiki Imazu is responsible for “witchverse” designs, and Yuri Habuka will compose the music.
Music and Theme Songs
In addition to the ending theme, the Maebashi Witches will perform the opening theme song titled “Sugosugi Maebashi Witches!” (Super Amazing Maebashi Witches!). The song’s lyrics are written by Tsunku, known for his work on Precure All Stars New Stage 2: Kokoro no Tomodachi, with TORIENA composing the music.
The series promises to offer a blend of magic, music, and teenage growth, with a unique premise that highlights the adventures of five girls who are destined to become more than ordinary high school students.
Fans can look forward to Maebashi Witches when it premieres in April 2025.
