HIDIVE has announced a special 10th anniversary screening of the popular anime Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?—also known as DanMachi—set to take place during Anime Expo 2025.
The event is scheduled for July 4 at the JW Marriott’s Diamond Ballroom in Los Angeles, marking the second day of the convention. As confirmed via Anime Expo’s official social media, the screening will include a guest appearance by Nobuhiro Osawa, producer from animation studio Egg Firm. Convention tickets are already on sale.
Originally launched as a light novel series in 2013 by author Fujino Omori and illustrator Suzuhito Yasuda, DanMachi quickly rose to prominence in the fantasy genre. The story centers on 14-year-old Bell Cranel, an ambitious adventurer and sole member of the Hestia Familia. After being saved by the powerful swordswoman Ais Wallenstein, Bell gains a rare ability to grow stronger based on his emotions. His quest for strength—and his affection for Ais—drives him through countless trials, with various characters developing romantic feelings for him along the way.
The anime adaptation debuted in 2015 to strong critical and fan reception. To date, the series has released 74 episodes and three OVAs. The light novel and manga adaptations continue to expand the story, with the novels nearing Volume 21 and the manga approaching Volume 17.
English dub ADR director Kyle Colby Jones once recalled his early skepticism about the series, noting its unusual title. “With a name like Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, you don’t have a whole lot of high hopes, but it’s fun… this is a really fun story,” he said.
In late 2024, fans were disappointed when the final episodes of DanMachi V—the anime’s fifth and final season—were postponed indefinitely. However, the series made a return in February 2025, with its 74th and final episode airing on March 7.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
