After five weeks at the top, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback has fallen to second place at the Japanese box office, overtaken by Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the latest film in the action franchise starring Tom Cruise.
From May 23 to 25, the 28th Detective Conan film earned 376 million yen (USD 2.63 million) from 255,000 admissions—a 27.2% drop from the previous weekend. Its total now stands at 12.8 billion yen (USD 89.67 million) from 8.84 million admissions, making it Japan’s 29th highest-grossing film, surpassing Star Wars: Episode I.
Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: At a Confessional debuted in fourth with 259 million yen (USD 1.82 million) on 177,000 admissions. Based on a manga by Hirohiko Araki, the film achieved 82.2% of the opening revenue of its predecessor and ranked third in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction with a 3.98/5 rating.
Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey, adapted from Akiko Higashimura’s manga, dropped to fifth in its second weekend. It earned over 100 million yen (USD 701,100), bringing its total to 404.8 million yen (USD 2.84 million) from 300,000 admissions.
Other notable films include Uta no Prince-sama: TABOO NIGHT XXXX, which fell to seventh in its third weekend. HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- dropped out of the top 10 but remains in 11th place in its 14th weekend.
Princess Principal: Crown Handler – Chapter 4, released in 48 theaters on May 23, did not chart in the top 10 but ranked second in Filmarks’ satisfaction rating (4.05/5), just behind Mission: Impossible.
