Baseball is deeply ingrained in Japan’s culture, even rivaling its passion for anime—one of the country’s most famous exports. In a unique crossover, MLB has partnered with the hit anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba to promote the upcoming season-opening series in Tokyo between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.
Two weeks before the event, MLB released a short anime trailer featuring a conversation between Demon Slayer character Sakonji Urokodaki and an announcer discussing Japan’s love for baseball. The anime, which aired from 2019 to 2024, has captured global attention, as has its collaboration with MLB.
The video also highlights five star Japanese players participating in the series: Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto from the Dodgers, and Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki from the Cubs.
