GKIDS announced on Thursday that it has secured the North American rights to JUJUTSU KAISEN Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, a compilation film featuring the fan-favorite “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” arc from the anime’s second season. The film is set to hit U.S. theaters on July 16, with screenings available in both subtitled and English-dubbed formats. Meanwhile, Japanese audiences will get an early look when the film opens domestically on May 30. The movie’s theme song will be an acoustic rendition of “Ao no Sumika” by Tatsuya Kitani, who originally performed the second season’s opening theme.
The Jujutsu Kaisen anime’s second season premiered in July 2023, running for two consecutive cours (six months) and adapting two major arcs from Gege Akutami’s manga: “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” and “Shibuya Incident.” Crunchyroll streamed the season worldwide as it aired, including an English dub. The newly announced compilation film will focus on the “Hidden Inventory” arc, which explores the past of fan-favorite characters Satoru Gojō and Suguru Getō during their school days, before their eventual rift.
A sequel anime covering the manga’s “Culling Game” arc is already in the works, with MAPPA returning as the production studio. The franchise first debuted in October 2020 with a 24-episode TV anime, followed by the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film in December 2021, which later screened in the U.S. in March 2022. Akutami’s original manga, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024, remains widely available through Viz Media and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform.
