The upcoming season of Catch Me at the Ballpark! offers anime fans a unique look at the life of a baseball game regular. The show introduces viewers to characters like beer girls, baseball players, and the friendly security staff. Next weekend, fans will see the series’ star, Fairouz Ai, take part in this experience by throwing the first pitch at a special event.
Ai, who voices the energetic beer girl Ruriko in the anime, will make her appearance on May 17 during the Catch Me at the Ballpark! Special Day at Chiba’s Zozo Marine Stadium. The event will feature a game between the Chiba Lotte Marines and the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. In addition to throwing the ceremonial first pitch, Ai will make an appearance during the game’s intermissions.
The anime, directed by Junichi Kitamura (Fluffy Paradise) at EMT Squared, features series composition by Shigeru Murakoshi (I Parry Everything), character designs by Fumio Iida, and music by MONACA (Shangri-La Frontier). It is based on the manga by Tatsuro Suga.
Currently streaming on Crunchyroll as part of the spring anime season, Catch Me at the Ballpark! follows Murata, a man who escapes his stressful job by attending baseball games. Though the games are exciting, it’s Ruriko, the tough yet caring beer girl, who draws him back. As Murata becomes her first regular customer, the two share warm and humorous moments that brighten the ballpark—and perhaps their own hearts.
