Kasagi Labo, a homegrown anime venture studio based in Singapore, has unveiled a major $10 million investment aimed at boosting its anime production capabilities. This commitment is designed to elevate Kasagi Labo’s role in bridging Japanese creative content with global audiences, starting with its flagship project, Special Kid Factory.
The funding follows a successful $12 million fundraising round, which was led by Burda Principal Investments and supported by various strategic partners. The capital will be allocated to the development, marketing, and global distribution of upcoming anime projects, signaling a growing trend of comprehensive approaches to anime creation and intellectual property (IP) expansion.
Kasagi Labo’s upcoming slate includes Special Kid Factory, a sci-fi adventure series that explores themes of identity, mystery, and survival. The anime, which premiered its trailer at the 2024 Anime Expo in Los Angeles, tells the story of Genpei, an ordinary boy who discovers that he is a clone of Denshiin, a skilled detective. Together, the duo embarks on an intergalactic journey, solving mysteries and fighting to survive in a universe inhabited by “Special Kids.”
The production of Special Kid Factory is a collaboration between Kasagi Labo and NAZ Studio, a well-known anime production house recognized for its work on ID: INVADED, Good Night World, and Sabikui Bisco. This partnership underscores Kasagi Labo’s ambitions to deliver high-quality anime content that resonates with global audiences, while maintaining the distinctive elements of Japanese storytelling.
“Our goal is to contribute to the evolving landscape of anime production and distribution in this global era,” said Kendrick Wong, founder of Kasagi Labo. “We aim to push the boundaries of storytelling and create new ways for fans and business partners around the world to engage with anime.”
As part of its expanding portfolio, Kasagi Labo is working on several other diverse anime productions, each tailored to meet the tastes of different global markets. With its strategic investment and high-profile collaborations, Kasagi Labo is positioning itself as a key player in the future of anime content production and distribution worldwide.
