The anime film Look Back has won the Best Animation of the Year award at the 34th Japan Movie Critics Awards, announced on April 24, 2025. Directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama and based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot manga, the film premiered in Japan on June 28, 2024.
The Japan Movie Critics Awards are presented by film critics to recognize excellence in Japanese cinema. Previous winners in the Best Animation category include acclaimed films such as Wolf Children, A Silent Voice, and Night Is Short, Walk On Girl.
Look Back tells the story of two young girls, Fujino and Kyomoto, who are passionate about creating manga. Their journey explores themes of artistic expression, rivalry, and personal growth. The film has been praised for its emotional depth and unique animation style.
The award ceremony will take place on June 9, 2025, at Hall C of the Tokyo International Forum.
