Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback has made an impressive start at the Japanese box office, holding onto the No. 1 spot for two weekends in a row. The film surpassed expectations in its opening weekend, outperforming A Minecraft Movie and other newcomers during the first weekend of the Golden Week Holiday.
From April 25-27, the 28th movie in the Detective Conan series earned 1.669 billion yen (approximately 11.74 million USD) from 1.136 million admissions, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. This represents a 51.5% drop from its debut weekend. However, the second-weekend earnings were 86.88% of the gross from the 27th film in the series, Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, which went on to become the highest-grossing movie in the franchise.
After two weeks, the cumulative gross of One-eyed Flashback has reached 6.3 billion yen (44.33 million USD) with 4.31 million tickets sold. This is slightly behind The Million-dollar Pentagram by 200 million yen.
Meanwhile, the live-action adaptation of Ya Boy Kongming!, a comedy manga by Yuto Yotsuba and Ryo Ogawa, opened in 311 theaters on April 25, debuting at No. 5. The film, which serves as a sequel to the 2023 TV drama, also ranked fifth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction rankings with an average score of 3.84/5.0 from 265 reviews.
Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales, the 44th film in the Doraemon franchise, dropped four spots to No. 6 in its eighth weekend at the box office.
The re-edited “Mount Natagumo Arc” from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ranked 10th. This special screening, which includes 11 chapters shown weekly in Japan from April 4 to July 3, continues to attract viewers.
Finally, after opening in fourth place, ME & ROBOCO: The Movie, an anime film based on Shuhei Miyazaki’s comedy manga, fell out of the top 10 in its second weekend.
