INCUBASE Arena Expands to New Locations with Double Launch in Hong Kong and Malaysia

by changzheng17

INCUBASE Arena, the anime cultural experience hub established by INCUBASE Studio, marked a significant milestone with the reopening of its Hong Kong location in Mong Kok’s Chong Hing Square on January 17. This exciting move was paired with the launch of its first international branch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, earlier this month. Both events signal the company’s rapid expansion and its ongoing mission to foster anime culture globally.

Originally launched in Hong Kong in April 2024, INCUBASE Arena’s swift growth is a testament to its commitment to cultivating a vibrant community for anime enthusiasts. The arena’s expansion into Malaysia illustrates its broader vision of spreading anime culture beyond Hong Kong’s borders.

A Nurturing Ground for Anime Culture

The name “INCUBASE” merges the concepts of “incubation” and “base,” reflecting the studio’s goal of creating a nurturing environment for anime fans. While anime has long been considered a subculture in regions like Hong Kong, its influence continues to grow, shaping lifestyles and fostering creativity.

Sion Yip, Founder and CEO of INCUBASE Studio, emphasized the importance of anime as a transformative cultural force. “INCUBASE aims to nurture the anime experience, positively impacting society and introducing anime culture to a wider audience,” Yip stated.

New INCUBASE Arena in Mong Kok

The newly relocated INCUBASE Arena in Hong Kong spans more than 20,000 square feet across the B1 and B2 levels of Chong Hing Square in Mong Kok. The B2 level is dedicated entirely to exhibitions, while B1 offers a variety of innovative facilities. These include an expanded INCUShop offering a broad range of anime merchandise, as well as popup spaces, card battle zones, capsule toy areas, personalized card machines, and photo booths. The food and beverage section will also rotate with anime-themed offerings, further enhancing the immersive experience.

The arena’s first exhibition at its new location is the “Chainsaw Man Animation Exhibition – Hong Kong,” marking its overseas debut. This exhibit replicates the original Japanese showcase while featuring exclusive content tailored for Hong Kong fans. The event also included a special appearance by Kikunosuke Toya, the voice actor for the main character Denji, and a surprise appearance from the mascot Pochita during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“The new space allows us to offer a broader exhibition experience and, with its central location in Mong Kok, provides easier access for fans. We have exciting plans for 2025, including more unforgettable anime experiences for Hong Kong and surrounding areas,” said Yip.

Expansion to Malaysia

In addition to its Hong Kong reopening, INCUBASE Arena opened its first international location in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, located on the second floor of Fahrenheit88. The Malaysian branch kicked off with the “Kamen Rider 50th Anniversary Exhibition,” which had previously run in Hong Kong. The exhibition, which also hosted the largest gathering of Kamen Rider belt fans in Malaysia’s history, was recognized by The Malaysia Book of Records for drawing over 400 participants.

The Malaysian branch, like its Hong Kong counterpart, will host regular anime exhibitions and related activities. It also includes an INCUShop offering exclusive anime merchandise, bringing local fans a unique and exciting experience.

At the opening ceremony, Yip thanked Malaysian anime fans for their support and outlined the company’s future plans, which include expanding INCUBASE Arena to other Southeast Asian countries, mainland China, Taiwan, and eventually to regions such as the Middle East, Europe, and North America.

Looking Ahead

The opening of the new INCUBASE Arenas in Hong Kong and Malaysia marks a pivotal moment in the studio’s efforts to build a world-class cultural hub for anime. With a growing roster of exhibitions and events, INCUBASE Arena invites anime enthusiasts to join a creative and immersive journey, celebrating the rich and diverse world of anime.

As INCUBASE continues to expand globally, its vision of fostering community, creativity, and cross-cultural exchange through anime remains steadfast.
