A sequel to the 2020 anime film Poupelle of Chimney Town, based on Akihiro Nishino’s original books, has been officially announced. The new film, titled Entotsu-machi no Poupelle ~ Yakusoku no Tokeidai~ (translated as Poupelle of Chimney Town: The Promised Clocktower), is set to release in Japanese theaters in spring 2026.
As with the first movie, Yusuke Hirota will return to direct at STUDIO4℃, with distribution handled by Toho and CHIMNEY TOWN. A special video and a new illustration by Nishino were unveiled alongside the announcement.
Poupelle of Chimney Town was previously released in the United States by Shout! Factory, which describes the film as a visually stunning and emotionally powerful story about young Lubicchi and his unlikely companion, Poupelle, a man made of garbage. Set in a town surrounded by thick chimney smoke, Lubicchi dreams of seeing the stars, believing in the truth his father always told him. The film, produced at Tokyo’s renowned STUDIO4℃, captivated audiences with its beautiful animation, touching performances, and remarkable music and sound effects.
