The anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 is returning for its second season in July 2025. Today, the series revealed the 11th piece in its “Kaiju Hyakkei” (“100 Views of Monsters”) artwork collection, which imagines daily life in a world overrun by giant monsters. Kaiju No. 8 will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll as part of the summer 2025 anime lineup.
The original Kaiju No. 8 manga, created by Naoya Matsumoto, is serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital magazine, with an English version published by VIZ Media. The TV anime is directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya at Production I.G, with Ichiro Okouchi handling the series composition. Tetsuya Nishio is the chief animation director and character designer, while Mahiro Maeda designs the kaiju. Shinji Kimura serves as art director, and Yuta Bandoh provides the music.
The series follows Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man determined to join the Defense Force and fulfill a childhood promise to his friend Mina Ashiro. Kafka works alongside Reno Ichikawa, a new coworker, while cleaning up Kaiju remains. Inspired by Reno’s determination to join the Defense Force, Kafka decides to pass the entrance exam and protect humanity with Mina. However, after a small Kaiju enters his body, Kafka gains superhuman strength and powers, enabling him to fight back against the growing Kaiju threat. As he battles these monsters, he strives to earn the trust of his teammates and keep the world safe.
