Indonesian film distributor CBI Pictures, in collaboration with Odex, announced on Tuesday that the 28th installment of the Detective Conan franchise, Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback (Meitantei Conan: Sekigan no Flashback), will be screened in Indonesia. While the exact release date remains undisclosed, the film has already made waves in Japan, where it premiered on April 18. The movie shattered franchise records by topping the Japanese box office, earning 3.43 billion yen (US$24.15 million) and selling over 2.31 million tickets in its first three days—marking the strongest opening weekend in the series’ history.
Set in the snowy mountains of Nagano Prefecture, the film features protagonist Conan Edogawa in an action-packed snowboarding scene. The story brings back key characters, including Inspector Yamato—a Nagano detective with a distinctive eye injury—and Kogoro Mouri, who hasn’t had a major film role since 2005’s Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths. Additionally, Nagano-based characters Taka’aki and Yui play significant roles, adding depth to the mystery.
Directed by Katsuya Shigehara (Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine unit director) and scripted by Takeharu Sakurai (a veteran of multiple Detective Conan films), the movie promises high-stakes suspense and nostalgia for long-time fans. The theme song, “Twilight!!!” by King Gnu, further elevates the cinematic experience. With its record-breaking debut and compelling storyline, One-Eyed Flashback is poised to captivate Indonesian audiences upon its local release.
