GKIDS has acquired the North American theatrical distribution rights for JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie, marking the company’s first foray into the blockbuster JUJUTSU KAISEN franchise. The film, which compiles the fan-favorite “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” story arc from the hit anime series, will premiere in U.S. theaters on July 16, with screenings available in both Japanese with subtitles and an English-dubbed version.
The movie revisits the formative years of sorcerers Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, exploring their unbreakable bond and the mission that irrevocably altered their fates. Enhanced with remixed audio for a cinematic experience, the film will debut in Japan on May 30. A recently released trailer teased an all-new acoustic rendition of Tatsuya Kitani’s “Where Our Blue Is”—the original opening theme for the TV arc, which has amassed over 100 million YouTube views and 200 million Spotify streams.
Produced by Toho Animation and animated by MAPPA, JUJUTSU KAISEN is based on Gege Akutami’s best-selling manga in Weekly Shonen Jump. The anime’s second season concluded in December 2023, earning “Anime of the Year” at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. This film marks the franchise’s first major release since then and follows JUJUTSU KAISEN 0, which grossed $188 million worldwide. The story follows Gojo and Geto as they protect Riko Amanai, the destined “Star Plasma Vessel,” in a mission that tests their loyalty and reshapes their futures.
