An anime film adaptation of Toritsukareotoko (literally A Man Obsessed with Something), the novel by Shinji Ishii, has been officially announced and is scheduled to premiere in fall 2025. A teaser trailer and visual were revealed today on the film’s official website and X account (formerly Twitter), giving fans a first glimpse at the upcoming project.
About the Story
Originally published by Billiken Shuppan in 2001 and reissued in a bunko edition by Shinchosha in 2006, Toritsukareotoko follows the story of Giuseppe, a young man whose intense passions earn him the nickname “Toritsukareotoko” from the townspeople. Once fixated on something, he cannot see anything else.
One day, Giuseppe falls in love at first sight with Pechka, a girl who sells balloons. Though captivated by her, Pechka hides a quiet sorrow. Determined to help her, Giuseppe—with the aid of his mouse companion, Cielo—uses the many odd skills he’s mastered through his obsessions to uncover and heal the pain in her heart.
