Fans of the popular romantic comedy anime My Dress-Up Darling received an unfortunate update this week. The official spinoff manga, Bisque Doll de chu, has been confirmed to be a single-volume release, cutting short hopes for an extended continuation of the beloved franchise.
Bisque Doll de chu began serialization in Young Gangan magazine in December 2024, just one month after the main manga series ended. Created by Choboraunyopomi, the spinoff was seen as a lighthearted follow-up for fans still reeling from the conclusion of the original story. However, a new Amazon Japan listing for the collected tankobon confirms that the series will be limited to only one volume, scheduled for release on July 25, 2025.
As of now, there are no announced plans for additional volumes or further spinoffs related to My Dress-Up Darling.
Franchise Timeline
The original My Dress-Up Darling manga enjoyed a nearly decade-long run and gained a strong following. Its anime adaptation debuted in 2022, produced by CloverWorks, and covered roughly the first five of the manga’s 14 volumes. A second season of the anime is currently in development, and it’s expected to debut in July 2025, the same month as the release of the Bisque Doll de chu volume.
With Season 2 likely covering the remaining volumes of the main manga, it may also incorporate content from the spinoff. The original cast from Season 1 is set to return, keeping continuity intact for long-time viewers.
Additionally, a live-action drama adaptation aired in Japan from October to December 2024, further expanding the franchise’s media presence.
While the upcoming anime season brings excitement, the short-lived nature of the spinoff serves as a bittersweet reminder that the story of My Dress-Up Darling may soon be reaching its end.
