While fans eagerly await Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Gashapon Online is offering a cute way to pass the time. A new series of collectible “Machiboke” figures featuring the anime’s characters is now available for purchase.
The term “Machiboke” refers to a special style of chibi figures designed to look like they’re sitting and waiting. The new Frieren line includes five miniatures: a smiling Frieren, a grumpy Fern, a focused Stark, Sein caught in a swamp, and a hungry Mimic.
These toys are available through the official Gashapon Online website until June 15. Just like a real gashapon machine, buyers pay a flat price and receive a random figure. Each “pull” costs 400 yen (approx. US$2.75), with equal 20% odds for each character.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is directed by Keiichiro Saito (Bocchi the Rock!) and animated by MADHOUSE. The anime’s story composition is by Tomohiro Suzuki (One-Punch Man), with character designs by Reiko Nagasawa (takt op.Destiny) and music composed by Evan Call (Violet Evergarden).
The original manga, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, is published in English by Viz Media. The anime is available for streaming on Crunchyroll with multiple subtitle and dub options.
Crunchyroll’s official synopsis:
After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends’ dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out.
