Fans of the Pokémon anime can celebrate as three popular seasons from the franchise’s sixth generation — Pokémon XY, Kalos Quest, and XYZ — are set to return to Netflix on June 1, 2025. This marks the end of a lengthy absence for the beloved series, which has not been available for streaming on major platforms in over a year.
The Pokémon XY era is widely praised by fans for its strong storytelling and character development. Many consider Ash Ketchum to be at his most mature and skilled during this period. The series also features memorable companions, such as Serena, who has a strong fan following, and powerful Pokémon like Greninja, who gained a special battle form known as Ash-Greninja.
Mega Evolution, a key gameplay mechanic introduced in Generation VI, plays a central role in the storyline. Its return to relevance in the upcoming video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the anime Pokémon Horizons makes this re-release especially timely. For fans unfamiliar with Mega Evolution or the Kalos region, the returning series offers a chance to revisit or discover one of Pokémon’s most iconic eras.
Previously available on Hulu, the XY series was removed from the platform over a year ago and has since been difficult to access legally. While older seasons of the Pokémon anime have been uploaded regularly on the official Pokémon TV YouTube channel, the XY arc has remained unavailable — until now.
Viewers can also expect high-quality battle animation and narrative arcs throughout the three seasons. The show features the popular rival Alain, a strong Mega Evolution trainer who first appeared in a set of special episodes during the XY timeline. While those specials may not be included in the Netflix release, Alain does return in the main series as Ash’s final opponent in the Kalos League.
With the renewed focus on Mega Evolution across Pokémon media in 2025, the return of Pokémon XY, Kalos Quest, and XYZ provides the perfect opportunity for fans to reconnect with one of the anime’s most acclaimed storylines.
