While Solo Leveling continues to make headlines following its historic nine-award sweep at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including the coveted Anime of the Year, the manhwa-based series has quietly shattered another major milestone—setting a new global anime streaming record.
According to newly released data, Solo Leveling Season 2 has become the most-watched anime across all major streaming regions worldwide in Q1 2025. This includes top rankings across every Crunchyroll territory, from North America and Europe to the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond. The series also led anime rankings on Japan’s Amazon Prime Video and ABEMA, and claimed the title of top January release in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and much of Southeast Asia, via Medialink.
Produced by A-1 Pictures and distributed internationally by Kakao Entertainment, Solo Leveling’s dominance extends Season 1’s remarkable success. The first season earned a 4.9-star rating from over 610,000 users on Crunchyroll—surpassing long-standing fan-favorites like One Piece and Demon Slayer. On MyAnimeList, the series has shown strong viewer retention, pointing to consistent fan engagement.
In a recent interview ahead of the awards, Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini praised Solo Leveling for its wide appeal. “The most important thing is the theme of the story,” he said. “It has a lot of themes from gaming… it’s a language [fans] speak, and that makes it much more compelling.”
The anime’s explosive success has triggered a wave of interest in adapting Korean webtoons and web novels. Aniplex recently picked up Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (announced at Anime Expo 2024), while Studio EEK is developing Tomb Raider King for a 2026 release. Meanwhile, Toei Animation has partnered with Studio N to produce an adaptation of Gosu.
Both Season 1 and Season 2 of Solo Leveling are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
