Pokémon Fans Have a Perfect Day with New Series and Specials

by Hazel

Pokémon fans have a lot to look forward to today. Last month, the franchise revealed Monpoké, a delightful new web series featuring Pikachu, Dedenne, and other beloved characters. The first two episodes of Monpoké are set to premiere worldwide today.

Monpoké, the first official anime based on Pokémon’s baby-focused toy and apparel brand, follows Pikachu’s adventures on Monpoké Island, a vibrant tropical paradise filled with friendly monsters. According to Gamer, a Japan-based media site, Episodes 1 and 2 will be available on the Pokémon Kids Japan TV YouTube Channel starting at 11 a.m. JST on February 19. The site also released new preview images, showcasing Pikachu and companions like Ludicolo, Mime Jr., and more.

Unlike most Pokémon anime, which are produced by OLM, Monpoké is animated by Fanworks, a smaller studio known for projects like Aggretsuko and Please Take My Brother Away. Reiko Yoshida, the screenwriter behind A Silent Voice and The Colors Within, is writing the story. Natsuki Hanae, famous for voicing Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer, serves as the main narrator. Hanae also voices Okarun in Dandadan, another popular anime.

But Monpoké isn’t the only new Pokémon anime launching this month. The franchise has teamed up with CoMix Wave Films (known for Your Name and Suzume) to create Dragonite and the Postman, an anime special that explores the Pokémon world beyond training and battles. This special follows Hana and her friendship with a postal Dragonite. When Hana receives a letter for Rio, a boy trying to connect with his distant father, she and Dragonite set out to help him. Directed by Taku Kimura (Star Wars: Visions), the special will premiere on February 27.

Season 2, which launched on February 7, follows Liko and Roy as they explore the mysteries of the Six Hero Pokémon, tackle gym challenges, and uncover the secrets of Terastalization.
