Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback has shattered box office records, marking its debut as the top-grossing film in the Detective Conan series. The film, which opened on April 18, took the No.1 spot in the Japanese box office for the weekend of April 18-20, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha.
The 28th film in the Detective Conan/Case Closed franchise premiered in a record 522 theaters across Japan, including 55 IMAX, 12 MX4D, 62 4DX, and 9 Dolby Cinema venues. This marked the largest opening in the series’ history.
The film’s box office performance over its first three days was remarkable. On April 18 (Friday), the film attracted 697,355 viewers, grossing ¥1.05 billion (approximately $7.7 million). On April 19 (Saturday), attendance increased to 835,908, generating ¥1.25 billion (about $9.1 million). By April 20 (Sunday), the film saw a slight drop in attendance to 781,427, but still earned ¥1.13 billion (around $8.3 million).
In total, the film earned ¥3.44 billion (around $24.4 million) from 2.31 million admissions in its opening weekend. This figure represents a 102.6% increase compared to last year’s Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, which grossed ¥3.35 billion.
One-eyed Flashback also achieved a high level of audience satisfaction, topping Filmarks’ first-day rating with an average score of 4.10/5.0, surpassing The Million-dollar Pentagram’s 4.04/5.0.
This successful debut marks a historic moment for the Detective Conan franchise and positions One-eyed Flashback as one of the most successful films of 2025 so far.
