Fans of The Apothecary Diaries can now test their detective skills at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in a new interactive mystery event. Starting in July, park-goers will have the chance to solve medical mysteries just like Maomao in The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk Investigate the Mystery Drug.
To participate, visitors will receive a free investigation booklet and take on the role of pharmacists, searching for clues and hidden messages scattered throughout the park. If you successfully solve the mystery, you’ll witness a scene featuring Maomao and Jinshi.
The event will run from July 1 to January 4, 2026, as part of USJ’s “Cool Japan 2025” initiative.
The Apothecary Diaries is based on the light novels written by Natsu Hyuuga, illustrated by Touko Shino, and published by Shufunotomo under the Hero Bunko imprint. In English, J-Novel Club publishes the digital version, while Square Enix handles the print edition.
The anime adaptation is directed by Norihiro Naganuma, with Akinori Fudesaka directing at TOHO Animation and OLM. Crunchyroll currently streams the anime and summarizes the story as follows:
Maomao, once living a peaceful life with her apothecary father, is sold to the emperor’s palace as a lowly servant. But she doesn’t fit in with the royal lifestyle. When imperial heirs fall ill, she steps in to find cures, catching the attention of the handsome palace official, Jinshi, who promotes her. Now, Maomao is known for solving medical mysteries in the palace.
