Five years after its debut, fans of Dorohedoro are set to see the anime’s return, with a 2025 streaming release date confirmed today. Along with the announcement, a new teaser visual featuring storyboards was revealed for the previously confirmed sequel. The update also assures viewers of Yuichiro Hayashi’s return to direct the series at Studio MAPPA.
The Dorohedoro anime, based on the acclaimed manga by Q Hayashida, originally premiered in January 2020. Hayashi, known for his work on Attack on Titan: Final Season and Kakegurui, helmed the first season at Studio MAPPA, which was widely praised for its distinctive animation style and engaging storyline.
The manga’s official English version is published by Viz Manga. The story takes place in a grim, decaying city known only as “the Hole.” Sorcerers have been abducting people from the streets for grotesque experiments in dark magic. Amid this chaos, Nikaido discovers Caiman—a man with a reptilian head and no memory of his past. Together, they embark on a quest to find and kill the Sorcerer responsible for his transformation, hoping to break the curse. However, their hunt sets off a violent conflict between the citizens of the Hole and the Sorcerers, with En, the head Sorcerer, sending a deadly crew to eliminate the lizard-man terrorizing his people.
With the sequel on the horizon and the creative team returning intact, Dorohedoro fans can look forward to more action-packed episodes as the story continues to unfold in 2025.
