The highly anticipated action RPG, Starlight Re:Volver, is gearing up to offer its first public playtest this March. After debuting with an exciting trailer last fall, the game revealed more details during IGN Fan Fest, including a chance for players to sign up for a three-day pre-alpha demo.
Starlight Re:Volver brings an anime-inspired twist to the action RPG genre, similar to Diablo and Path of Exile. Players will team up as powerful characters called “Divers,” battling enemies and bosses in vibrant, colorful environments. Alongside the fast-paced combat, the game offers social spaces where players can casually interact between rounds. Despite its cheerful, anime aesthetic, the game promises deep ARPG gameplay.
The upcoming playtest will introduce two playable characters, Effy and Kira. Effy is a melee fighter wielding a hammer, while Kira uses a pistol and has a moon-themed idol design. Currently, two other characters are undergoing reworks. Players will have the opportunity to customize these characters’ abilities to face a challenging boss fight in a single available biome.
In addition to combat, the game features a fishing mini-game, which has been a staple of many RPGs. Players will use lures to attract fish for others, and environmental factors like weather and time of day will affect the types of fish caught. These fish can then be used to craft items, making the fishing system both a cooperative and strategic element.
A notable addition to Starlight Re:Volver is an NPC named Clover, a café owner voiced and partly designed by League of Legends streamer LilyPichu. The game’s pre-alpha blog also emphasizes the developers’ commitment to avoiding the use of generative AI, as highlighted in the voiced trailer.
The pre-alpha demo will be available through Steam, with access granted via email invitations. Players can follow updates and communicate with the community through the official Discord server.
