Eric Legrand, the beloved French voice actor best known for portraying Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z, has passed away at the age of 66. His longtime colleague and friend, Patrick Borg—the French voice of Goku—confirmed the news in a heartfelt tribute posted to Facebook.
While the exact cause and date of Legrand’s death have not been disclosed, Borg revealed that Legrand was transferred to a palliative care unit on the morning of Monday, May 19, 2025. Since then, there had been no further communication from the actor.
In his emotional message, Borg reflected on their decades-long friendship and shared memories from their time working together on the Dragon Ball series. “You’ve shown exemplary courage. You are a true Saiyan Vegeta,” Borg wrote. “I will not forget you… I am unhappy, very unhappy. Farewell, my friend.”
Legrand’s contributions to anime extended far beyond Vegeta. He also voiced key characters in the Dragon Ball franchise, including Yamcha, Garlic Jr., Dende, Mr. Popo, and the World Tournament Announcer. His talents were not limited to Dragon Ball—Legrand also brought Pegasus Seiya to life in the French version of Saint Seiya, earning him a dedicated following across multiple generations of anime fans.
