Takashi Sano, known for Back When You Called Us Devils, is back with a new suspense series titled Bakudan (Bomb), which debuted on Kodansha’s Comic Days platform on Friday with a two-chapter launch.
Announced via the platform’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Bakudan introduces readers to a seemingly unremarkable middle-aged man brought in for questioning at Tokyo’s Nogata Police Station over a minor assault. During the interrogation, he casually declares, “There will be an explosion in Akihabara at 10 o’clock.” When a bomb does indeed detonate in the popular shopping district, the man continues to predict more blasts—plunging the police into a tense race against time.
This marks Sano’s return to the thriller genre after his most recent work, Kimi ga Kemono ni Naru Mae ni (Before You Turn Into a Beast), which ran in Weekly Young Magazine from October 2021 to March 2023, with its eighth and final volume released in May 2023.
Sano gained critical attention with Back When You Called Us Devils (Kimi ga Bokura wo Akuma to Yonda Koro), a dark psychological manga that ran from 2017 to 2020 on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. The 14-volume series is available in English through Kodansha USA Publishing.
Bakudan promises to blend psychological tension with explosive suspense, continuing Sano’s reputation for gripping, dark storytelling.
