Tayama Midori’s “Girl Crush,” a coming-of-age manga about two girls aspiring to become K-Pop idols, has sold over 500,000 digital copies before its physical release. The first two volumes hit Japanese stores today, but the series already built a strong following through digital platforms, leading to its upcoming physical release.
To mark the milestone, a trailer for the manga was released, alongside a poster celebrating the 500,000-copy achievement. These are now displayed in bookstores across Japan.
“Girl Crush” debuted on the LINE Manga platform on November 20, 2020, under Shinchosha’s Comic Nicola label. The series updates bi-weekly, with eight digital volumes currently available and two physical volumes released. It is licensed by Comikey for digital distribution, with Viz Media handling the physical release. The first physical volume is scheduled for release on June 10.
The manga follows Tenka Momose, a high school freshman who excels in singing, dancing, and academics but struggles with love. Her life changes when she meets Erian Satou, a girl passionate about becoming an idol. Together, they chase their K-Pop dreams.
