The 16th and final volume of WATATEN!: An Angel Flew Down to Me was released in Japan today, May 29. To mark the conclusion of the beloved yuri comedy series, Japanese publisher Ichijinsha has launched a commemorative trailer on its official YouTube channel.
The video features newly recorded voice performances by Reina Ueda as Miyako Hoshino and Maria Sashide as Hana Shirosaki, reprising their roles from the anime adaptation.
To celebrate the manga’s completion, digital posters are also being displayed across train stations in Tokyo.
Created by Nanatsu Mukunoki, WATATEN! was serialized in Comic Yuri Hime from November 2016 to April 2025. The story follows a shy college student, Miyako, who becomes captivated by her little sister’s charming grade school friend, Hana. The manga’s blend of sweet comedy and slice-of-life moments has earned it a devoted fanbase.
The series was adapted into a 12-episode anime by Doga Kobo, which aired from January to March 2019. It was followed by an OVA episode in May 2019 and a feature film, An Angel Flew Down to Me: Precious Friends, released in October 2022.
All installments—the TV series, OVA, and film—are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, which describes the story:
Miyako, a shy college otaku, is instantly smitten when she meets her younger sister’s adorable new friend Hana. Determined to get closer to the girls, Miyako awkwardly navigates their friendship, leading to a lighthearted and comedic journey filled with cute moments.
The release of the final volume brings an end to nearly a decade of WATATEN! and celebrates its impact on fans of yuri and slice-of-life comedy.
