IGN has released the first two minutes of the upcoming Nyaight of the Living Cat anime, adapted from the manga by Hawkman and Mecha-Roots.
The series will premiere on the Abema Premium streaming service on July 6 at 11:00 p.m. JST (10:00 a.m. EDT). It will then broadcast on TV Tokyo on July 7 at 26:00 (effectively July 8 at 2:00 a.m.), with additional airings on BS TV Tokyo, TV Hokkaido, Animax, and other streaming platforms.
Crunchyroll will stream the series from July 6 across North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Macau. Sony Pictures Entertainment handles distribution in Japan and Asia.
The anime’s first episode will screen early at Anime Expo on July 3 at the Crunchyroll Stage in the JW Marriott. The Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal will premiere episodes 3 and 4 as part of its official selection.

The rock band THE YELLOW MONKEY performs the opening theme “Cat City,” while punk band WANIMA provides the ending theme “Matatabi.” Heidi Shepherd of Butcher Babies contributes the “Death Voice” for the Nyaight of the Living Cat theme song, with lyrics by Ayuko Saito, composition by Kōji Endō, and guitar by Marty Friedman.
Each episode will conclude with an original segment offering tips about living with cats. The anime’s official website will feature a dedicated page updating viewers on this content throughout the series’ run.
The anime is directed by Takashi Miike, known for live-action films such as Blade of the Immortal and Ichi the Killer, serving as chief director. Tomohiro Kamitani (Katana Maidens – Tomoshibi, MIX Season 2) directs the series at OLM studio. Shingo Irie (Log Horizon, Golden Kamuy) oversees scripts, Takao Maki (Blue Period, Laughing Under the Clouds) designs characters, and Kōji Endō (Ace Attorney, As the Gods Will) composes the music. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Slow Curve are credited with planning and production.
The Nyaight of the Living Cat manga launched in Mag Garden’s Comic Garden magazine in October 2020. Its sixth volume was released in Japan on February 21, while Seven Seas Entertainment published the fifth volume in English on October 22.
